 Tourism in Celaya

The municipality of Celaya is one of the cities that make up the geographical and economical region known as El Bajío. It is a cosmopolitan yet industrious city with a thriving business environment.

Celaya has a robust infrastructure which affords it excellent road transportation for goods and people. This network links the city to major urban centers such as Querétaro, Morelia, Mexico City, and Guadalajara, fostering economic growth and facilitating mobility.

Indulge in the flavors of our city and savor delights like our famous caramel sauce—made with goat milk—, craft beer, and other culinary delicacies prepared by artisanal cooks offered at food stalls in the city center.

Local attractions

1. Municipal Museum and Arts Center

The building dates back to 1609, when it was inaugurated as a convent for the San Agustín order. Over time, it served various functions, including being used as a jail. Today, it stands as the headquarters of the Institute of Art and Culture of Celaya.

News in Celaya

1. Celaya, Guanajuato, has implemented an artificial intelligence platform designed to predict and prevent crimes, becoming the first municipality in the state to use this advanced technology to improve public safety. The platform analyzes more than 200 variables, such as places, people and events, which are interrelated with C4 data accumulated since 2014. Through algorithms and data analysis, risk scenarios are generated, allowing criminal activities to be anticipated and optimization of prevention strategies.

The Secretary of Citizen Security, Jesús Rivera Peralta, explained that the platform will help police officers in their daily work, increasing their presence in higher risk areas. The project was developed by the company Antiopia, with the financial support of Fidesseg and the association “Actuando Por Guanajuato”, and was designed specifically for the needs of the municipality. Although similar technologies exist in other parts of Mexico, this system is a “tailor-made suit” for Celaya, offering a solution adapted to its particular criminal situation.

2. Cajeta is a typical Mexican sweet, originally from Celaya, Guanajuato, its ingredients are goat's milk and sugar. Andrés López Gómez, master cashier, explains what its production process is like and why it acquired this name.

According to Andrés, he has been a cashier master in Celaya for 30 years in a company that has 164 years of history, which is traditional in Celaya. He said that his greatest satisfaction is that when people try this candy their face is pleased.
Andrés López shared what the procedure is for making cajeta and said that the number one ingredient is goat's milk, sugar, sodium carbonate and they are boiled.

Likewise, he said that there are four basic flavors: envinada, natural, burnt and vanilla and each one has a special process.

“The quemada takes a process of eight hours to take on its color and flavor, on the other hand, the envinada takes a process of two and a half hours just like the vanilla and the natural one. This sweet is known as cajeta because it is served in a small wooden box,” he said.
First, all the ingredients are placed in a copper saucepan with a wooden spoon and boiled until it condenses. With the experience of each cajete master, the consistency is achieved. Finally, it is placed in wooden or glass boxes and they are ready to eat.

3. Celaya, who was fourth in Tokyo 2020 along with Yahel Castillo, and Olvera, world champion in Doha 2024 in the 1-meter springboard, amply confirmed the good feelings and magnificent results achieved in this Olympic cycle.
Mexicans Juan Manuel Celaya and Osmar Olvera won the silver medal in the 3-meter synchronized springboard event after the intractable Chinese Daoyi Long and Zongyuan Wang.

Celaya and Olvera completed the competition, held at the Aquatic Center in Paris, with a total of 444.03 points, compared to 446.10 for the champions, who revalidated Chinese dominance, while the British Anthony Harding and Jack Laugher closed the podium with 438.15.
They began the competition at the Aquatic Center with a jump of 49.80 points that placed them in third position, they dropped to sixth in the second, but climbed to first place after third and fourth.

From that moment on, the Chinese divers significantly increased their performance and were no longer given any options, although the Mexican divers maintained their style and secured a highly valuable silver, the first in this 3-meter synchronized discipline that, incidentally, keeps the team on the Olympic podiums, since it 'succeeds' the bronze of Gabriela Agundez and Alejandra Orozco in the synchronized 10-meter platform in Tokyo 2020.
